What is standalone PayPal?
Sellers who use standalone PayPal process their payments from buyers directly to their PayPal account. For buyers, the experience is as easy and seamless as using Reverb Payments, except that (1) the purchases are not protected by Reverb Buyer Protection, but buyers may seek protection through PayPal Protection and (2) sellers receive their earnings via PayPal.
How do I know if my seller uses PayPal to process payments?
Before you purchase gear from a Reverb seller, scroll down below the item and select Payments & Returns. If PayPal is the only payment method accepted by the seller, that means the seller uses PayPal to process payments.
Do I need to have a PayPal account in order to check out?
No, you are not required to create or have an existing PayPal account in order to check out. PayPal allows you to check out as a guest using any credit/debit card.
What happens if I have an issue with an order processed through PayPal?
When you purchase from a seller who uses PayPal’s processing payment system, your order is protected by PayPal Protection rather than Reverb Buyer Protection. If there’s a problem with your order, we can walk you through the PayPal dispute process.
Orders processed via Reverb Payments | Orders processed via PayPal |
Eligible orders processed through Reverb Payments are protected by Reverb Buyer Protection. | When you pay using PayPal's payment processing system, your transaction is protected by PayPal Protection, bypassing Reverb Buyer Protection. |
For orders still within the protection window, Reverb will offer more hands-on assistance and may reach out to the seller on your behalf to get to a resolution. | If there’s a problem with a standalone PayPal transaction, you’ll work directly with PayPal to determine the resolution. |
PayPal is a third-party payment processor who manages and processes their own transactions.
