Hello, how can we help you?

How to use calculated shipping

Calculated shipping is only available in the U.S. for shipping labels purchased through Reverb.

Quick answer

With calculated shipping, you can take the guesswork out of setting a shipping price for your listing. Our shipping calculator automatically determines the shipping cost based on the locations of the seller and buyer, along with the package’s weight & dimensions.

When a buyer purchases an item, their zip code is used to generate an accurate shipping cost through USPS or UPS. At checkout, the buyer will pay the full cost of the shipping label. Once they complete the checkout process, the shipping label will automatically be purchased and sent to your Reverb account and email.

What to know:

  • If you change the package dimensions, that will also change the label price. Note that you will be responsible for this price difference, even if the label costs more than what the buyer paid.
  • All orders that are $1,500 and above will always have Safe Shipping and a signature requirement added to the calculated shipping cost.
  • Items being listed for $10,000+ do not qualify for shipping labels through Reverb, meaning calculated shipping does not apply either.

How do I use calculated shipping?

Before starting your listing, make sure your shop address is up to date. Since the label cost is based on both the buyer’s and seller’s locations, changing your return address after the buyer has already paid for shipping can change the label price. If the label cost is more as a result, you would be responsible for this price difference.

  • Start a new listing by selecting Sell your gear.
  • In the Shipping portion of the form, go to How will you handle shipping costs? and select Have Reverb calculate the shipping cost for you.

  • The Use Reverb package data option will be visible if this data is available for the product you’re selling. This uses Reverb's packaging data to automatically fill in the weight & dimensions based on our system's historical data. You can leave this toggle turned on if you’d like Reverb to automatically determine this information for you.

Important: If the packaging you use ends up being larger and heavier than Reverb’s packaging data initially entered, you are subject to pay for any price difference as a result. The buyer only pays the price that was stated on the listing at the time of purchase.

  • If you turn the toggle off, or if the package data is not available for your item, you will be required to manually enter the weight & dimensions of the packaged item. Make sure these measurements are accurate to avoid shipping charge corrections.
  • Select if you would like to protect your shipment with Safe Shipping through Reverb and/or Signature Requirement. If you opt into any of these options, the buyer will pay the additional protection price.

  • Complete your listing.
    • When a buyer purchases your item, you will see that a shipping price has been added to the order total.

Calculated label autopurchase

Once the buyer's purchase is complete, the shipping label will automatically get purchased for that order. You'll receive a Reverb notification and email with the ability to print the shipping label and view the QR code (for USPS only).

Canceling calculated shipping labels

If you need to cancel the label, you can do so by going to your Orders page and selecting the red Cancel Label button for the order.

After selecting this, you’ll be redirected to the order’s page where you can select the black Get Reverb Shipping Label button at the top of the page where you can get a new carrier calculated shipping label or create a custom shipping label through Reverb.

If you’d like to get a shipping label from the carrier directly, scroll down to the bottom and select the Cancel and add my own tracking number link to manually enter your tracking information.

FAQs

Can I change the cost of a calculated label?

To edit the cost, you’ll need to cancel the label and get a new one, which is described above. You will not be charged for the canceled label as long as it hasn’t been used.

Note that the buyer only pays the shipping price listed at the time of purchase, so if the label ends up being more than what the buyer paid, you’ll be responsible for the price difference.

Can I disable autopurchase for calculated labels?

If you’d prefer to purchase shipping labels through Reverb yourself after the buyer’s payment goes through, contact Reverb Support so our team can disable the autopurchase feature for your account.

How does the QR code work for calculated shipping labels?

QR codes are currently only available for USPS calculated shipping labels. Instead of printing the label, simply pull up the QR code on your phone for a shipping store associate to scan.

Does calculated shipping apply to orders created by offers?

No, calculated shipping cannot be used on orders created by offers since the shipping price on an offer gets set by the seller. In this situation, sellers will be prompted to manually create a shipping label through Reverb.

Can I use calculated shipping with FedEx?

Calculated shipping is only available for USPS and UPS labels at this time.

If I know my item will need to be shipped in multiple boxes, am I able to indicate that when setting up carrier calculated shipping for my listing?

At this time, calculated shipping only works with items in need of one shipping label.
